Forthcoming postdoc opportunity in the Remote Sensing of Freshwaters
We will be hiring soon (official job announcement to follow in January 2025)! This is an excellent opportunity to expand your skills in data science and continental-scale modeling, while also getting integrated in a research group passionate about understanding the impacts of environmental change on inland water quality. More info below.
The Mountain Limnology Laboratory (MLL) at the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research at University of Colorado Boulder is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work on a project funded by the U.S. Geological Survey Next Generation Water Observing System. The primary project centers around developing a national (United States) scale water quality dataset from remotely sensed dissolved organic matter (DOM). The postdoctoral researcher will leverage 1.8 million published and analysis-ready water column dissolved organic carbon concentrations collected in inland waters (Aquasat V2), paired with Landsat surface reflectance, to build predictive models of DOM in lakes and rivers. The postdoc will be integrated into other ongoing projects within the MLL and will have opportunities to develop their own lines of inquiry on topics related to inland water biogeochemistry. This project provides a training opportunity for exciting data-driven research and for building a professional network that includes both academic and federal scientists.
Desired qualifications: Skills in data science (such as AI/ML), a strong statistical background, and expertise in ecosystem science, limnology, biogeochemistry, hydrology, geography, or related fields are highly desirable. Passion for open science in principal and in practice.
Required qualifications: Passion for and experience in collaborating with a diversity of colleagues at various career stages, both remotely and in person, are essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills. At least one lead-author publication. The candidate must have a Ph.D. prior to the start date.

Kevin Ryan and Michael Meyer, U.S. Geological Survey and Dr. Rose Cory at the University of Michigan.
Duration: This is a CU Boulder, full time, exempt, fully benefitted, salaried position for two years. Salary range is $65,000-75,000 per year, depending on experience, with highly competitive benefits. The preferred start date is May of 2025, but exact start date is negotiable.
